Caryl Ann Poteete

Caryl Ann Poteete, 65, of Carterville, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Caryl was born January 4, 1958, in Carbondale, to Carol D. and Ruth Ann (Chamness) Poteete.

She is survived by her sister, Lyn Bain of Crainville; niece, Madison Bain; aunts and uncles, Mary Lou (Hobart) Brown, Joyce Carney, Jean Claunch, and Don Poteete.

Caryl was preceded in death by her parents.

She obtained a law degree in California and practiced law in Los Angeles.  She returned home to Southern Illinois after the birth of her niece, Madison, and started teaching Paralegal classes at Southern Illinois University.  She was a retired professor from Southern Illinois University.

We will all miss Caryl's infectious laugh, adventurous spirit, and her incredible zest for life.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville, with Rev. Cody Knapik officiating.
