Carrol Wayne Modglin, 89, of Carterville and formerly of Cambria, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2024, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. A burial, with military rites will be held at Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 5:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Cambria First Baptist Church or to Blairsville Cemetery.
Carrol was born on January 13, 1935, in Cambria, to Violet (Morgan) and Everett Modglin. He married Nancy L. Ramsey on March 31, 1954, in Herrin. She preceded him in death on July 22, 1996. He then married Donna Brothers on July 10, 2005, in Cambria.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Modglin; daughters; Johnna (Jimmy) Douglas and Dana (Michael) Edwards; sons, Eric (Linda) Modglin and Ron (Alisa) Modglin; Donna’s family, Cindy (Ron) Brown, Bob (Amy) Brothers and Brent Brothers; grandchildren, Jamie (Zacharious) Pappas, Matthew Edwards, Zachery (Taylor) Modglin, Jason (Erin) Pinkston, Jessie (Luke) Wieneke, R.J. Modglin, Jessica Brown, Danielle (Nate) Brown, Lindsey (Blake) Pinnon, Sidney (George) Waring; great-grandchildren, Solaris Pappas, Harper Pinkston, Henry Pinkston, Owen Modglin, Wren Modglin, Lincoln Wieneke, River Noeldner, Dillan Noeldner, Cypress Brown, Elodea Brown, Louin Brown, Olivia Pinnon, Katherine Pinnon, Annabeth Waring and William Waring; sister-in-law, Betty (Novella) Herman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Nancy; brothers, Donald, Victor and Bobby Modglin; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Carrol worked as a maintenance technician at Olin Industries for over 28 years, retiring in December 1995. He also served the community as the sexton of Blairsville Cemetery for many years.
He honorably served our country in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1962.
Carrol belonged to the Cambria First Baptist Church and served on the Cambria Village Board and Fire Department.
He was an avid Cardinals fan who enjoyed going camping with the “Loaners On Wheels Group”, going out to eat and going boating. The most important thing to Carrol was his family and his church.
