Carol Ann (Akins) Reynolds

Carol Ann Reynolds, 72, of Carterville, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2021, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Rev. James Rutherford officiating. Burial will be in Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Carol was born April 7, 1949, in Johnston City, to Billie G. and Glenda Mae (Gray) Akins. She married Stephen “Steve” Gene Reynolds on September 6, 1969, in Cambria.

She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Steve Reynolds of Carterville; sons, Michael (Michaella) Reynolds and Chad (Athena) Reynolds, all of Carterville; father, Bill Akins of Cambria; sister, Leah (Brent) Van Ham of Carbondale; brother, Bill Akins of Carbondale; nieces, Traci Forbes Donaldson, Kim Forbes Hatley, Kelly Forbes, Emily Spolarich, and Haley Spolarich.

Carol was preceded in death by her mother and sister, Gail Forbes.

She retired in 2014, after 27 years of service with the College of Education at SIUC, where she served as the Administrative Assistant to the Dean.

Carol attended the First Apostolic Church of Carterville.

She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and also enjoyed being out at Crab Orchard Lake.
