Carterville
Brett Dwight Williamson, 39, of Carterville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Herrin Hospital, surrounded by his family. A warrior to the end, Brett fought his long, hard-fought battle with determination and grace.
He was born on February 1, 1987, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Cynthia Lorraine Clark.
Brett is survived by his parents, Cynthia (Mark) Burnett; siblings, Zakery (Ashley), Nicholas (Raven), and Aaron Williamson; grandmothers, JoAnn Clark, Edna Nalefski, and "Granny Z"; aunts and uncles, Debbie (Rick) King, Sarah Clark, Cindy (Jason) DuBos, and Larry Burnett; nieces and nephews, Brayden (Jordon), Jazzy, Lana, Kai, Lilly, and Brooke; special friends, Kristi (John) Corder, Cassie (Tyrus) Lucas.
He was preceeded in death by his grandparents, "PawPaw" Larry Clark, "Paw" Dwight and Joyce Williamson, William Burett, and Richard Nalefski; and aunt, Pam Noce.
Brett worked at Aisin, as well as a cook for Pioneer's Cabin, Hardee's in Herrin, and McDonald's and Arby's in Carbondale.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his nieces and nephews, who brought him great joy. Brett had a passion for cooking and took pride in his work in the kitchen. Brett was a talented artist who loved to draw, which he inherited from his great grandpa Orville Noce. Brett loved to read and watch movies, his favorites being Batman and Pirates of the Caribbean. He loved to write as well and even had a poem published in the 9th grade. Brett lived life in motion and as a youth could be found skateboarding with friends or playing sports with his brothers and friends.
Brett loved to sing and was thrilled to perform at Disney World with his chorus group from John A. Logan College. His mom was delighted to see him perform with the choir and spend a week of fun with Brett and his classmates at Disney World. He also enjoyed listening to music, sharing laughs, playing games (especially 650), and making memories with those closest to him. His kind heart and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Brett leaves a legacy of love and firm faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He lived in hope and is now resting safe in the arms of Jesus. 2 Timothy 4:7, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
