Bonnie Franklin Obituary

Bonnie Rose Franklin, 93, of Herrin, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at Herrin Hospital.

Private services will be held Monday, May 18, 2020, with Pastor Ron Henwood officiating.

Bonnie was born January 23, 1927, in Murphysboro, to John T. and Mamie (Loftus) Mays. She was united in marriage to Dayton L. Franklin on April 16, 1945, in Herrin.  They had just celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary.

She is survived by her husband, Dayton Franklin of Herrin; sons, Monte (Bonnie) Franklin and Bruce "Bengi" Franklin, both of Herrin; grandchildren, Laura (Danny) Long of Johnston City, Dru (Diann) Franklin of Herrin, Adam (Michelle) Franklin of Vernon Hills, Kelsey (Anthony) Rohrer of Herrin, and Hayden Franklin of Herrin; great-grandchildren, Ciara (Jacob) Severin and Braxton Rose, all of Herrin, Madeline and Aubrey Franklin, both of Vernon Hills, and Grayson, Oliver and Rory Rohrer, all of Herrin; great great-grandchild, Chandler Severin of Herrin.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Herrin.

Bonnie retired after twenty years of service as an Inspector at Smoler Brothers in Herrin. She had also been a clerk at Herrin Supply for eight years.

Bonnie was a talented cook who was famous for "Mamma's" chocolate pies and her Christmas candies.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.  Most recently, Bonnie, enjoyed expressing her creativity by coloring and making wreaths.

Memorial contributions can be made to the D.A.V. (Disabled American Veteran), Chapter 71, 507 W. Main Street, Marion, IL 62959.  

The family would like to thank the ICU nurses of Herrin Hospital who provided such great comfort care for Bonnie and who were always willing to talk with us.
