Billie Don Ramsey, 84, of Marion, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2023, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home, with Pastor Kevin McNeely officiating. Burial will be in Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to Grange Hall Freewill Baptist Church.
Billie Don was born April 22, 1938, in Carterville, to Gilbert O. “Bill” and Velma L. (Walker) Ramsey. He married Caroline Sue Damron on October 29, 1958, in Herrin.
Billie Don is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Caroline Ramsey, of Marion; children, Steve (Cheryl) Ramsey and Kim (Rick) McKinney; grandchildren, Elaina McKinney, Trey McKinney, Nick (Torie) Ramsey, Tyler (Mallory) Ramsey; great-grandchildren, Hudson Ramsey, Adley Ramsey, Riley Finn Ramsey, and Collin Ramsey; brother-in-law, Max (Vickie) Damron.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Amanda Ramsey; in-laws, Hubert and Maxine Damron.
Billie Don worked at R & B Stephen Construction Company as a laborer and superintendent from 1962 – 1981. He later worked as a superintendent at Crab Orchard Golf Course from 1981 – 2009.
He was a member of Grange Hall Freewill Baptist Church.
Billie Don was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed quail hunting, being at the golf course or at the boat club. He liked to play cards at Decker’s Pool Hall in Carterville and was also quite the “pool shark”. Billie Don was a Gunsmoke enthusiast and had seen every episode multiple times.
He loved spending time with his family, and his everyday presence will be dearly missed.
