Betty Joe Palmier, 86, of Marion, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Deaconess Illinois in Marion, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with her son, Richard Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.
Betty was born on March 1, 1940, in Carterville, to Mildred Marie (Flora) and Joseph Aaron Tippy. She married Wilson Nelson and he preceded her in death. Betty later married Robert “Bob” Palmier in Murphysboro. He preceded her in death on March 19, 2008.
She is survived by her children, Richard (Pennie) Nelson, Donna (Steve) Crawford, Tracie Cochran, and Lesley (Rob) Lewis; grandchildren, Mariah Nelson, Tabitha (Matt) Racicot, Richelle Nelson, Josiah (Krysten) Nelson, Josh McDonnell, Amy (Lovelia) Perez, Sarah McDonnell, Matt McDonnell, Breea (Dylan) Kramp, Courtney Cochran, and Page (Saige) Stevens; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; infant sister, Marie; grandchildren, Darian Hayes and Saige Hawthorne.
She worked at American Magnetics on the assembly line for over 10 years.
Betty was a member of Crainville Baptist Church. She enjoyed crafts- crocheting, traveling, and singing.
She also had a special talent for finding four-leaf clovers, often spotting them wherever she went.
