Barbara L. (Tippy) Phillips

Barbara L. Phillips, 88, of Crainville, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Herrin Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 19, 2023, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Revs. Lauren Padgett, R.H. Chitwood, and Cody Knapik officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday.

Barbara was born October 22, 1934, in Crainville, to Irmon Monroe and Dimple Melba (Flora) Tippy. She married Kenneth Raymond Phillips on July 20, 1954, in Crainville. He preceded her in death on August 16, 2009.

She is survived by her children, Danny (Bessie) Phillips, Mark (Tammy) Phillips, and Lita Phillips; grandchildren, Amber Phillips, Sarah Ahls, Kenneth (Misty) Stout, JoAnna Williams, and Ian Williams; great-grandchildren, Liam Stout and Logan Williams; sister, Shirley White; sisters-in-law, Sandra Tippy and Lita (Larry) Padgett.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, James Tippy and Charles Tippy; and sister, Joan Rosemary Nelson.

After completing classes at John A. Logan, Barbara began her long career in healthcare as an administrator and activity director at Ray White Nursing Home in Marion, which is now Integrity Healthcare.

Barbara was a talented artist from the early age of 6 up until she was in her mid 70’s, and her site began to fail. She enjoyed painting watercolors and drawing.

She was a giving person who loved her family dearly.

Barbara resided on California Street most of her life, but recently called Integrity Healthcare home. She received wonderful care from the staff at Integrity. Although she couldn’t be at home to care for her flowers, Barbara would always ask about her hibiscus, peonies, and holly hocks.
