Barbara Ann (Baxter) Nelson

Barbara Ann "Bobbi or Barb" Nelson, 78, of Carterville, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020, at Herrin Hospital.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2020, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Thursday.  

Barbara was born on April 8, 1941, in Carbondale, to Leo Ernest and Waneda (Russell) Baxter. She married Eddie Ray Nelson on her birthday in 1959, in Carbondale.

She is survived by her husband, Eddie Nelson of Carterville; son, Wade (Lisa) Nelson of Makanda; grandchildren, Ashley Hess of Herrin, Ferrol Hess of Carterville, Joshawa (Michelle) Hess of Carterville, Wyatt Nelson of Makanda, Brittany (Dallas) Hunter of Auburn, Brandee Beltz of Herrin, Brandon Beltz of Makanda; great-grandchildren, Dalton Hess, Gabriel Hess, Haidyn Clover, London Shadowens, Logan Fortner, J.J. Beltz, Neko Allen, Nova Hunter, Kora Hunter, Lola Hunter; son-in-law, Randy Hess of Carterville; and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Angela Hess; brothers, Joe Sr., Jesse and an infant Baxter; and step-father who raised her, Grover Houge.

She owned and operated, along with her mother, the Colonial Cafe from 1967 until 1975.

She also worked at Heartland Regional Bank in Carterville for several years.

Barbara loved camping and spending time with her family.
