Barbara Ellen (Johnson) Finney

Barbara Ellen Finney, 89, of Crainville, passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Graveside services will be held at Noon, Monday, December 13, 2021, at North Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville, with Rev. Tommy Monroe officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the Anne West Lindsey Library in Carterville.

Barbara was born December 28, 1931, in Grassy Township, Illinois, to Charlie and Zula Zengara (Spears) Johnson. She married Robert “Gene” Finney on October 11, 1952, in Marion. He preceded her in death on December 23, 1992.

She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly (Dick) Terry of Marion; sons, Ken “Bud” (Amy) Finney of Herrin and Kevin (Melanie) Finney of Carterville; grandchildren, Kristin (Randy) Hammersley of Marion, Kati (Dr. Adam) Henson of Marion, Kali (Carl) Brannan of Thompsonville, Emile (Eric) Turner of Grassy Township, and Karsen (Kasey) Epple of Marion; great-grandchildren, Kassia and Sophie Kwasniewski, both of Marion, Hayley (Cody) Hastings of Herrin, Rayana Hammersley of Goreville, Finn and Joshua Henson, both of Marion, Audi and Anna Brannan of Thompsonville, and Hux and Gatlin Turner, both of Grassy Township.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Kathy Finney; grandson, Joshua Terry; brothers, Walter, George, Bud, and Homer Johnson; and sisters, Mary Brooks and Martha Batson.

She was an Adjudicator with the Illinois Department of Employment Security for over twenty years.

She was a member of Crainville Baptist Church.

Barbara was an avid reader who also enjoyed playing Pinochle with her friends.
