Arvel "Don" Wiggs

Arvel "Don" Wiggs, 87, of Carterville, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at the CLC Unit at the Marion VA.

A celebration of Don's life, hosted by his family, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, March 15, 2020, at the Blue Heron Boat Club, with Pastor Jeff Wiggs officiating. Military rites will immediately follow.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Activities Department at the Marion VA CLC Unit.

Don was born April 23, 1932, in Herrin, to Arvel William and Maxine (Young) Wiggs. He married Anita Joyce Coffey in 1953, in Carterville.  

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Wiggs of Carterville; children, Cindy (Jack) Jennings of Herrin, Garry ( Sheila) Wiggs of Carterville, and Sandy (Chad) Webb of Gilbertsville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Heather (Chuck) Charlet, Jennifer (David) Little, Nicole Wiggs, Nathan Wiggs, Garred Wiggs, Angel (Conar) O'Donnell, Parker (Devon) Simpson, Johnna Michels, and Mallory Michels; 9 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and many dear cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Don honorably served our country in the U.S. Army during Korea.

He worked as a carpenter for over 50 years.

Don enjoyed fishing and being out on Crab Orchard Lake. He also was a talented wood worker and "pit master".
