Annetta Marie Edwards, 62, of rural Carbondale, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025, at her home.
A celebration of life, hosted by her family, will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the Blue Gill Bay (formerly the Blue Heron Boat and Yacht Club) in Carterville.
Annetta was born on February 6, 1963, in Gary, Indiana, to Lawrence Lavern and Eleanor Mae (Atkins) Edwards.
She is survived by her daughter, Jessi (Christian) Thomas; grandchildren, Olive Thomas and Caroline Thomas; siblings, Robert (Patty) Edwards, Frankie (Rhonda) Edwards, Larry Edwards, twin, Jannetta Edwards, and Lisa (Rick) Tyner; nephews, Bryan (Cassidy) Edwards and Derrick Owens; plus great-nieces and great-nephews, and the Homoya cousins, David and Tim.
Annetta was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a dedicated postal clerk for the United States Post Office, where she proudly served her community for many years.
An adventurer at heart, she visited every Major League Baseball stadium but two—always eager to experience the unique charm each city had to offer. Her love for travel extended beyond baseball; she found joy in exploring local gems on every vacation.
She had a true green thumb, especially when it came to flowers and hostas, and found peace in her garden. Summers were often spent camping at Little Grassy and Kentucky Lake, where she made countless cherished memories.
A lover of music, she attended incredible concerts and always had a favorite song playing. She treasured weekends spent yard saling and antiquing with her sisters and daughter, searching for hidden treasures and sharing laughter along the way.
She had a playful spirit—skilled at arcade games, particularly pinball and claw machines—and was known to walk away with prizes. In her younger years, she was an avid athlete, playing both softball and basketball.
Her heart was big and full of love for animals, especially dogs, who were always a special part of her life.
She will be remembered for her adventurous soul, playful nature, and the love she gave so freely to her family, friends, and furry companions.
