Alvin Dee “AJ” Boone Jr., 34, of Carterville, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

He was born on December 18, 1991, in Carbondale, to Debra Lynn (Miller) Jones and Alvin Scott Boone.

AJ is survived by his father, Scott Boone; mother, Deb Jones; sister, Cortney Elizabeth (Randy) Simmons; half-sister, Brittany Nicole Boone; niece and nephew, Grayson Van Voorhis, and Magnolia Simmons; paternal grandmother, Barbara Boone; plus numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Alivn D. Boone; maternal grandparents, Herbert “Burr” and Shirley Joyce Hill; maternal grandfather, Lonnie Miller; best friend, Andy Mabrey; and his beloved companion and dog, Ozzy.

AJ was a graduate from Carterville High School. He had worked as a chef in various restaurants, including Walker’s Bluff, before most recently working at Aisin.

He was an avid Atlanta Falcons football fan and a car enthusiast—particularly Mustangs and BMWs. He loved his dogs, playing video games, and Pokémon Go, and also had an interest in collecting.

A celebration of life, hosted by his family, will be held at a later date.

Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville assisted the family with cremation services.
