Alice Mae Hoover, 86, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 2, 2021.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 5, 2021, at Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville, with Pastor Bob Wynn officiating. Covid-19 Restrictions will apply, and facial coverings are required.
Memorial contributions can be made to Love & Truth Church in Crainville.
Alice was born July 16, 1934, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to James Rowland and Helen Johnson. She married Lowell Hoover on December 7, 1951, in Carterville, and they spent 69 loving years together.
Alice's greatest thrill was providing a warm and loving home for her family. However, her home was always open and a hot meal ready for anyone that stopped by. She was an avid seamstress, cook and artist who loved the Lord with all her heart.
Alice and Lowell ran Idle Hour Ceramic shop and Buds and Bows in Carterville for many years. Alice was a member of the Eastern Star where she served as a Past Worthy Matron.
Alice and Lowell were devout in their faith and attended Love & Truth Church in Crainville.
Alice is survived by her husband, Lowell Hoover of Carterville; daughters, Terri (Terry) Hanley of Carterville and Babe Hoover (life partner, Dave White) of Carterville; grandchildren, Benjamin Hanley of Marion, Seth Hanley of Carterville, Elyse Calhoun (fiancée, Josh Wilson) of Springfield; great-grandchildren, Makenna Hanley, Thomas Hanley and Mia Hanley; brother, Jimmy (Georgia) Rowland; sisters, Betty Evans and Starlette (John) Rowatt; sister-in-law, Annabelle Fogle; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ronald and Walter Rowland; sister, Shirley Watson; brothers-in-law, Goble Fogle, Don Evans and Ronnie Watson; and sister-in-law, Juanita Rowland.
