Alan Sloan Obituary

Alan Ray “Hoot” Sloan, 73, of Johnston City, went to his savior on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the Veterans Medical Center in Marion Community Living Center.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Whiteash Cemetery in Whiteash with Trevor Pullum officiating.  Military rites will be performed by the Carterville American Legion Post, Herrin VFW and American Legion Post.
Memorial contributions can be made to the activities department at the CLC at the Marion VA Medical Center.
Alan was born on November 16, 1951, in Herrin to Leo and Lillie (Mills) Sloan.
He is survived by his twin sister, Karen West; his loving dog Busa; friend. Randy and Suzy Pullum; many nieces and nephews.  
Alan was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bob, Bill, and Leonard Sloan; three sisters, Alma Fisher, Doris Baker, and Evelyn Smith.  
He honorably served our country in the United States Army.
Alan retired as a coal miner working at Old Ben Coal Company and Peabody Coal.
He was 
His life was about motorcycles. He and his best friend Randy Pullum traveled the states racing motorcycles and he could be found racing at the I-57 drag strip in Benton.  
He also enjoyed going for a run and jet skiing.
Alan bred and showed American Bulldogs.  His bulldog Turbo was awarded the best American Bulldog in the country.    
He was compassionate about animals.  He was always adopting dogs and feeding stray cats from the cemetery.
Alan was of the Christian faith and was loved by everyone who knew him.  He will be greatly missed.
