Adelia Ann Buttitta, 80, of Herrin, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Franklin County Hospital in Benton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, with Fr. Mark Reyling residing. Inurnment will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Herrin City Public Library, 120 N. 13th Street, Herrin, IL 62948.
Adelia was born December 22, 1942, in Chicago, to Edward and Mildred (Sweeney) Nuber Sr. She married Donald Buttitta Sr. on May 19, 1962, in Downers Grove, Illinois. Together they shared 61 wonderful years.
She is survived by her loving husband, Don Buttitta Sr. of Herrin; children, Don (Janet) Buttitta Jr. of Springfield, Pete Buttitta (Darla Crespi-Hancock) of Herrin, Steven (Anita) Buttitta of Rowlett, Texas, and Laura (Mike) Fussner of Odessa, Florida; grandchildren, Jeff (Cora) Pierce of St. Louis, Matthew Buttitta of Herrin, Erin and Chloe Buttitta of Rowlett, Texas, and Jarrod and Emma Fussner of Odessa, Florida; great-grandchild, Fitz Pierce; siblings, Edward (JoAnn) Nuber Jr. of Deltona, Florida, Margaret Almon of Marion, Frank (Marilyn) Nuber Sr. of Troy, Missouri, and Michael Nuber of Albuquerque, New Mexico; plus numerous other cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.
Adelia was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Woody Almon; sister-in-law, Cheryl Nuber; and cousin, Erin Hehl.
She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. Adelia also served on the OLMC School Committee and was a former member of the St. Mary’s Women’s Club.
Adelia’s passion for reading came in handy during her 8 years working at Herrin City Public Library.
She loved to spend time with her grandkids and other extended family. Her everyday presence will be dearly missed.
