Abbie "Abe" LeRoy Winget, 74, of Carterville, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2020, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, private graveside services with military rites by the Navy Honors Ritual Team will be held.
Abe was born July 10, 1945, in Carbondale, to John "Jay" and Martha M. (Rossin) Winget. He married Pamela Jo Greeney on August 14, 1977, in Carterville.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Winget of Carterville; daughter, Tammy Wallace of Carterville; son, Donnie Winget (Shane Yackle) of Carterville; granddaughter, Abby Stalker of Carterville; sisters, Ellen (Jerry) Gooden of Carterville and Vickie Winget of Carterville; mother-in-law, Pauline Oakley of Carterville; sisters-in-law, Carol Winget of Hurst and Cheryl Myers of Carterville; brother-in-law, Jim (Robin) Greeney of Herrin; nieces and nephews, Khrissy (Kendall) Hollister, John (Sabrina) Gooden, Jim Gooden, Jeremy Stefko, Brice (Melissa) Winget, Bobby Winget, and Tammy Alexander; several great nieces and nephews.
Abe was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenneth Ray Winget.
He honorably served our country in the United States Navy during Vietnam.
Abe was a coal miner for several years. He then worked in the maintenance department at SIUC.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family.
Memorial contributions are the preferred form of remembrance and will be graciously accepted to help the family offset his medical expenses.
