Walter Iwaszko Obituary

Walter "Wally" L. Iwaszko, 92, of Carterville, passed away Monday, August 5, 2019, at his home.

He was born June 27, 1927, in South Chicago, to Jozef and Helen (Kumin) Iwaszko. Walter married Rosemary Olejniczak on June 20, 1952, in Chicago. She preceded him in death on June 20, 2010.

Walter is survived by his daughter, Susan Burnam of Carterville; grandchildren, Sarah (Ryan) Towle of Carterville, Abigail (Jordan) Kurt-Mason of Alpine, Wyoming, and Hannah Burnam of St. Petersburg, Florida; great-grandchildren, Paxton and Rosie Towle and Senja and Reine Kurt-Mason; numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved dogs, Petunia and Butters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Mike T. Iwaszko; brothers, John and Bruno Iwaszko; and sister, Marie Zeman.

He honorably served our country in the U.S. Navy as a Boatswain's Mate.

Walter retired as a machinist with US Steel.

He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed taking fishing trips to Canada and Lake Michigan.

Walter was a talented woodworker.
