Victoria "Vickie" Lee Crain

October 25, 1947 ~ October 5, 2018 (age 70)

Victoria "Vickie" Lee Crain, 70, of Crainville, passed away Friday, October 5, 2018, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 8, 2018, at Crainville Baptist Church, with Pastor Cody Knapik officiating. Burial will be in Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., at the church.

Vickie was born October 25, 1947, in Herrin, to Russell Ray and Vera Francine (Anglin) Crain.

She is survived by her brother, Ernie (Sherry) Crain of Carterville; sister, Rosie (Phillip) Penrod of Largo, Florida; nieces and nephews, Matt (Julie) Crain, Krista (Pete) Hunter, Kyle (Lynn) Penrod, Jason (Dana) Crain, and Kelly (Tom) Webb, all of Carterville; 13 great nieces and nephews; and special friends, Lois Thompson, Dee Woolard, Sherry Jenkins, Debra Horn, and Sharon Barnes.

Vickie was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Roy and Minnie Crain and Hallie Bert and Delta Anglin; and a special Aunt, Phyllis Mertell.

She retired from SIUC after 35 years of service in the Disbursements Office.

Vickie was a faithful, loving member of Crainville Baptist Church, who served the church in the roles of Sunday School teacher and Missions Treasurer for many years.

She had a great love for reading as well as a talent for crocheting. Vickie made prayer shawls and hats for children with cancer.

She loved her family, especially her nieces and nephews. Vickie had a birthday tradition where she took her great nieces and nephews out for lunch and shopping. She could also be found in the stands keeping stats and cheering them on at their sporting events.

Vickie was a strong woman who made a very difficult decision and was at peace with the outcome of the decision.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Cheryl and Jessica from Hospice of Southern Illinois for the loving and outstanding care given to Vickie.
