Sybil (Brewer) Emery

Sybil Emery, 97, of Carterville, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with the Rev. Brad Harlow officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from noon to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Sybil was born on November 1, 1920, in Murphysboro, to Roy and Elsie (Tripp) Brewer. She married Ernie Emery on September 12, 1941.  He preceded her in death on September 18, 1995.

She is survived by her nephews, Nick Brewer of Carterville, Randy (Suzi) Mitchell of Crainville, Eric (Betty) Mitchell of Carterville, Dennis (Effie) Mitchell of Jasper, Alabama, and Ron (Pat) Mitchell of Crainville; nieces, Joyce (Ed) Fear of Carterville, Darla (John) Shelby of Crainville, Loretta Abbott of Spillertown, Frances Presley of Marion, Mildred Weatherford of Makanda, Donna (Danny) Williams of Makanda, Roberta (Claude) Worthen of Murphysboro, Mary Alice Femetis of Engelwood, Florida, Edith Davenport of Alexandria, Louisiana, Laura Deremiah of Caseyville, and Judy Brewer of Fairfield; her caregiver, Michelle Weathers; dear neighbors, Van (Shelba), and Barbara; and many great nieces and nephews.

Sybil was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernie; brother, Harold Brewer; sisters, Beatrice Stearns and Bernice Mitchell; nephews, Roger Darrell "Whitey" Mitchell and Claude Stearns; and great-niece, Tammy Charles.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her home and working in her yard. Sybil helped her husband run Ernie's TV  Service.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carterville.
