Roy Earl Adams, 73, of Carterville, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at home.
Memorial services will begin promptly at noon, Saturday, September 1, 2018, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Jeff Wiggs officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Memorial contributions may be made to Troop Veterinary Services (for emergency care of animals) 1500 IL-37, Marion, Illinois 62959.
Roy was born on February 23, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan. He married Judith Ann (Juvers) Robison on October 20, 2012, in Cambria. They shared 21 years together.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Ann Adams of Carterville; daughters, Amy (Bud) Finney of Herrin and Autumn Basler of Cambria; step-sons, Scotty Coleman of Herrin and Loran Wayne Robison of New Jersey; grandchildren, Emilie (Eric) Turner of Carbondale, Shelbi Basler of St. Louis, Mason Basler of Cambria, Nevaeh and Norah Coleman, both of Nashville, Tennessee; great-grandson, Hux Lawson; and the mother of his daughters, Gretchen Adams of Cambria.
He served as the former Fire Chief and Mayor for the village of Cambria. Roy was instrumental in securing grants for improvements to the Cambria Park, including the building of the Shelter.
Roy worked many years as a grant writer and most recently owned and operated his own business, Roy Adams Service Company, Inc. His plans were to retire by the end of this year.
Roy can be remembered best for his philanthropy and giving spirit.
He was an avid Cardinals fan, who in his younger years enjoyed playing golf and softball.
Roy was a family man who cherished his time spent with family.
