Paul Leon Robinson

December 15, 1938 ~ January 12, 2020 (age 81)


Paul Leon Robinson, 81, of Carterville, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020, at Herrin Hospital. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 16, 2020, at Marion First Apostolic Church, with Pastor Joel Gray officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Marion First Apostolic Church.

Paul Leon was born December 15, 1938, in Bush, to Paul J. and Hazel (Newton) Robinson. He married Bertha O'Brien on November 29, 1958, at the Bush Pentecostal Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Bertha Robinson of Carterville; son, PJ (Donna) Robinson of Carterville; grandsons, Corley Paul James, Dallon Jay and Brandt Hampton Robinson, all of Carterville; brother, Raymond "Butch" Eugene (Connie J.) Robinson of Austin, Texas; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Paul Leon was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, LaDonna and David Clark of Herrin.

He honorably served our country in the United States Army. He was awarded for his service as a truck mechanic and ambulance driver.

After bringing the computer age to the City of Lombard, he moved back home to Southern Illinois. He worked in healthcare administration for several years. He served at Marion Memorial and Belleville Memorial as Administrator, as well as Logan Primary, DayStar Care Center, just to name a few. He worked with many small businesses and doctors’ offices throughout the area. He also worked for years alongside his brother, Butch, building many churches across the country with American Church Builders.

He was a devoted member of Marion First Apostolic Church for more than 40 years. Paul Leon and his wife were pillars of the church, and he most recently served as secretary and treasurer.

Paul Leon was a multi-talented craftsman who enjoyed working with his hands, building and overseeing many personal construction projects, house remodels, etc.. In his later years, he enjoyed tinkering in his barn. He was truly a "jack of all trades".

He was a highly respected and dedicated member of the community who will be dearly missed.
