Opal Mae Fields, 93, of Cambria, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, December 17, 2019, surrounded by her children, JoAnn Pillatsch, Dwayne Fields, and Mike Fields.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Cody Knapik officiating. Burial will be in Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to noon, Saturday.
The preferred form of remembrance is memorial donations made to the Arthritis Foundation or to St. Francis Care Animal Shelter.
Opal was born July 17, 1926, in Blairsville, to Floyd and Julia Elizabeth (Atterberry) Dixon. She married John M. Fields August 6, 1943, in Eustis, Florida. He preceded her in death on November 4, 2003.
She is survived by her daughter, JoAnn (Craig) Pillatsch of Carterville; sons, Dwayne (Jeni) Fields and Mike Fields, all of Carterville; grandchildren, Beth Ann Fields of Fresno, California, Julie Stock of Carterville, Mark (Dani) Fields of Carterville, Sarah Fields of Mt. Vernon, Scott Fields of Carterville, Lisa (Todd) Derickson of Wildwood, Missouri, and Renee Pillatsch of St. Louis; great-grandchildren, Makenna Stock, Molly Stock, Mabry Fields, Davis Fields, and Drew Derickson; brother, Earl (Judy) Dixon of DeSoto; sisters-in-law, Esther Dixon of DeSoto, Cecil Dixon of Cambria, and Marie Fields of London, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Helen Davis, Elsie Cain and Lela Emery; and brothers, Elmer, Leonard and Carl Dixon.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her home and family.
Opal was a member of Bible Baptist Church.
In her younger years, Opal, along with her sister, Helen, would sing on WJPF Radio Station.
