Matthew Gene Sullivan

Matthew Gene Sullivan, 46, of Herrin, passed away September 17, 2019, at his home.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 21, 2019, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Rev. R.H. Chitwood officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., Saturday.

Memorial contributions are preferred to American Cancer Society.

Matt was born on February 22, 1973, in Carbondale, to Bobby Gene and Glenda Paulette (Lantrip) Sullivan.

He is survived by his sons, Tyler Sullivan (Bridgette Threlkeld and her children, Aleksa and Karsyn Threlkeld) of Marion and Caleb Sullivan of San Diego, California; brother, Jonathan Lee (Teresa) Sullivan of Newalla, Oklahoma; step-father, Robert Smith of Cambria; step-brothers, Brian Smith of Herrin, Chris (Emily) Echols of Pocahontas, Missouri, and David Smith of Herrin; niece, Brittany Sullivan; special cousin, Jerry Miller of Herrin; the mother of his sons, Christie Robinson of Creal Springs; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Matt was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Sullivan and mother, Glenda Smith.

He worked in the press room at Maytag for seven years. Matt also worked as a CNA at Shawnee Christian Nursing Home in Herrin.

Matt enjoyed cooking, but most of all spending time with his kids.
