Kathleen Mawdsley Obituary

Kathleen Gail Mawdsley, 72, passed away peacefully at home, Monday, May 6, 2019, after a long battle with cancer.  

She was born March 4, 1947, in Wichita, Kansas to Ruth (Proctor) and Marcellus Sowers. Kathleen married Richard Mawdsley on December 23, 1968, in Wichita, Kansas.

She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Richard; daughter, Jennifer, (Rush) Luangsuwan and their children, Jessica and Chase, all of Horseheads, New York; son, Jeffrey (Alison) and their daughter, Winona, all of Crystal Lake, Illinois.

Kathleen was a graduate of Wichita Southeast High School and the University of Kansas, where she was on the honor roll for four semesters and a member Sigma Kappa Sorority.

Madame Mawdsley was a dedicated French teacher who loved her students, the language and France.  She first taught at Bloomington Illinois High School and then for fifteen years at Marion High school.  Several times she guided her students on tours to Paris immersing them in French culture and especially its art. Her last tour was with her daughter and granddaughter.  

Kathleen also worked for TIP of Southern Illinois where she was the employee of the year in 1992.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 13, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church in Carterville, with Pastor Bob Morwell officiating. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, May 12, 2019, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville. Burial will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada, Iowa.

Memorial contributions can be made to the SIH Cancer Center or to the Carterville United Methodist Church.
