Helen (Boyd) Hardcastle

Herrin - Vera Helen Hardcastle, 84, of Herrin, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017, at her home.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 17, 2017, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with the Rev. Ralph Brandon officiating. Visitation will be held from noon to 2:00 p.m., Friday.  Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Helen was born on December 7, 1932, in Carbondale, to Colin Jeremiah “Jerry” and Vera (Bullock) Boyd. She married Frank Vernell Hardcastle on June 23, 1960, in Carterville. Together they have shared 57 wonderful years.

She is survived by her loving husband, Frank Hardcastle of Herrin; daughter, Tracy Johnson of Herrin; sons, Frank A. (Jamie) Hardcastle III of Carterville and James “Brad” (Mickey) Hardcastle of Fairhope, Alabama; grandchildren, Nicholas (Amy) Hardcastle, Jesse Jordan, Dustin Hardcastle, Dimitri Johnson, and Haley Johnson; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Lilly Jordan, and Carcyn and Grace Bloodworth; brother, Colin Boyd of Lexington, Kentucky.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard; sisters, Margaret and Renee Boyd; and grandsons, Zachary Hardcastle and Jaxson Keeling.

She was a medical and legal secretary for Dr. Fine and Attorney Ralph Harris. Helen also worked as a medical transcriptionist at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.  She owned and operated her own transcription business in California.
