Emma Lou (Mezo) Gottschalk

Emma Lou (Mezo) Gottschalk, 87, of Cambria, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at Herrin Hospital. Emma was born May 20, 1932, in Hurst, to Ben & Ethel (Barnett) Mezo. She married Willis “Bill” Gottschalk on July 17, 1954, in DeSoto.

She is survived by her sons, Steven (Diane) Gottschalk of Cambria and Bill (Becky) Gottschalk of Hurst; grandchildren, Bryan (Ann) Gottschalk of Herrin, Loree Gottschalk of Herrin, Bill (Laura) Gottschalk of Collinsville, and Tom (Jessica) Gottschalk of Hurst; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Paul (Judy) Mezo of DeSoto; sister Lillian Snider of Hurst; sister-in-law, Alita Mezo of Puerto Rico; and several nephews and nieces.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Jack and Dillard Mezo; and sister, Joyce Reed.

Emma owned and operated her beauty shop in Cambria for 22 years.

She was a member of the Hurst Christian Church for many years.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 20, 2020, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Greg Parker officiating. Burial will be at Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Monday, at the funeral home.
