Elizabeth "Betty" McKown Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Ann McKown, 97, of Beaver Dam, Kentucky, and formerly of Carterville, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019, in Beaver Dam.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Rev. Katie McKown officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from noon to 2:00 p.m., Saturday.

Betty was born on December 30, 1921, in Carterville, to George William and Bessie June Halstead Thetford. She married Robert Leon Patrick on March 12, 1941, in Cape Girardeau, MO.  He preceded her in death on November 27, 1955. Betty later married John C. McKown on May 29, 1957, in Carterville.  He preceded her in death on May 28, 1987.

She is survived by her sons, David (Karyn) Patrick of Edgerton, Wisconsin, Mike (Pat) McKown of Beaver Dam, Kentucky, John (Nina) McKown Jr. of Westerville, Ohio, and Kevin (Carol) McKown of Somerset, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Melissa Patrick, Colleen Williams, Robert Patrick, Susan Armstrong, Rev. Katie McKown, Ben McKown, Sam McKown, Josh McKown, Krista Lidala, Jacob McKown, Brandon McKown, and Amanda Bruley; 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Tom Thetford of Anna, Illinois; brother-in-law, Freeman “Doc” Greer of  Red Bud, Illinois; and niece, Jane Peiffer of Prairie du Rocher, Illinois.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, Michael Leon Patrick; sister, Rosemary Greer; and niece, Beth Wiskamp.

She was a lifelong member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church, Carterville.  Memorial contributions can be made to the church.

Betty had a talent for knitting and crocheting. She also loved to play bridge.
