Dorothy B. (Short) Conekin

CARTERVILLE

Dorothy B. Conekin, 87, of Carterville, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2018, at Carrier Mills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Revs. Brad Harlow and Ryan Tackett officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.

 Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Dorothy was born on September 7, 1930, in Williamson County, to Corum Fern and Eliza Ellen (Roberts) Short. She married Herbert Bruce Marshall and together they had two daughters, Kelly and Christy. Dorothy later married Dr. Albert "Al" M. Conekin on June 4, 1987. He preceded her in death on June 6, 2004.

She is survived by her daughters, Kelly (Ken) Stroud of Carterville and Christy (Jack) McCollom of Orion, Illinois; grandchildren, Emma McCollom, Jacob McCollom, Georgia Stroud, and Julia Stroud; brother, Jack (Janice) Short of Herrin; sisters, Jean Patrick of Goreville and Mary Short of Benton; sister-in-law, Phyllis Short of Energy.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Al Conekin; and brother P. D. Short.

She was a member of Crainville Baptist Church.

She retired in 2005, from Century 21 Realty. Dorothy loved being a realtor and helping people achieve their lifelong accomplishments-owning a home.

Dorothy enjoyed traveling with her husband, Al, to musical concerts and dinner theaters in Branson and Nashville.

She had a servant's heart with hard working hands that liked to meet and talk with people.

Dorothy's family would like to thank the staff at Carrier Mills Nursing Home and the nurses with Hospice of Southern Illinois for all of their wonderful care.
