Donald E. Ward, 94, of Cambria, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at the First Apostolic Church in Cambria, with Rev. R.H. Chitwood officiating. Entombment will be in Blairsville Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the Carterville American Legion, Herrin V.F.W. and American Legion and Navy Honors Ritual Team. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cambria Village Park.
Donald was born on August 4, 1924, in Cambria, to Mance Field and Elvernia (Vaughn) Ward. He married Phyllis Jeralds on July 19, 1946, in Cambria.
He is survived by his daughter, Tonya (Jim) Shride; sons, Danny (Pam) Ward of Marion and David Ward of Herrin; wife, Phyllis Ward of Cambria; brothers, Carlyn Ward of Pittsburg and Carroll (Bonnie) Ward of DeWitt, Michigan; sister, Irma Emery of Cambria; grandchildren, James (Amber) Shride of Bloomington, Indiana, Dwan Ward of Marion, Alaura (Brock) Barras of Johnston City, Andre Ward of Marion, Robert (Kelly) Ward of West Frankfort, and A.J. (Megan) Ward of West Frankfort; great-grandchild, Aiden Ward; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dora Pullum, Margie Kelly and Betty Snyder; and brothers, Ronald and Randy Ward.
He honorably served our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Donald retired from Orient Coal Mine near Waltonville.
He was a Christian and was baptized at the Herrin Church of God.
Donald could fix anything, he was a collector of "unappreciated gems". He also liked motorcycles and to dance.
