Carterville - Dr. Christinia “Chrissy” Lynn Whitaker, 43, of Clarendon Township, Michigan, and formerly of Carterville, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018, at her home.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 31, 2018, in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville, with Pastor Michael Williams officiating. Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville is in charge of arrangements.
Chrissy was born to Cindy Harris and Wardell Riggs, Jr., on December 11, 1974.
Chrissy grew up playing softball and basketball, loving music, and helping others.
Her compassion and empathy led her to pursue the path of medicine at the University of Virginia where she studied Biomedical Ethics. Chrissy went on to receive her doctorate from Marshall University School of Medicine.
Chrissy spent her relatively short life serving her community by opening her own Family Practice.
Chrissy was a selfless, rare, and precious soul—impacting every life she touched. She was a beacon of light for those who were lost in the dark and would walk a hundred miles with someone when only a mile was necessary. She trusted everyone and judged no one. Chrissy was able to see the good in others and had a gift for helping others see their worth. Her legacy of love lives on through her children and the lives that she touched.
She is survived by the lights of her life, her children, Cerey and Quinn Whitaker; mother, Cindy Harris and Ransom Daly of Hillsdale, Michigan, sister, Marisa Riggs of Herrin; nephews, Chase and Drake Lannom; Phillip Smith, and a host of friends and family.
Chrissy was preceded in death by her father.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in her name to Hope House, Attention Kelly Delaney, Program Director, 110 Reading Avenue, Jonesville, MI 49250.
