Alice C. Black, 86, of Carterville, died Friday, July 28, 2017, at Herrin Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with the Rev. Brad Harlow officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to GUM Drops or the Carterville Heritage & Preservation Foundation. Alice was born on May 22, 1931, in Weaver, Illinois, to William and Mary (Hiscox) Fogle. She married Donald Black on April 28, 1951, in Piggott, Arkansas. Together they shared 66 wonderful years. She is survived by her husband, Don of Carterville; daughters, Kim (Dennis) Spencer and Marianne (Steve) Cowan; son, Les (Nancy) Black; sister, Billie Louthan; grandchildren, Austin (Steven Phillip) Black, Jill (Bobby) Minor, Lindsay (Joe Chotner) Rawls, Jennifer (Tanner) Bonner, Crystal (Collin Judd) Lampley, Denise (Nathan) Ridgeway, Lisa (Justin) Vannoy, Laura (Dustin Haltom) Spencer, Chris (Erica) Cowan, Tierney (Kelly) Cole; great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Katie, Larry, Nile, Noah, Niah, Hunter, Alec, Timothy, Colbie, Macie, Eli, Logan, Preslie, and Harlyn. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David Fogle; sister, Dorothy Lewis; aunts, Ethel (Joe) Carimati and Edith (Raymond) Gothard. She retired from Maytag after many years of service on the dryer line. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Alice was an avid reader who also enjoyed attending craft shows.
